SCQS is pleased to announce the launch of its online Whole Life Costing Service
available at wholelifecosting.co.uk.
The system provides the user with a number of possible economic solutions depending
on a range of criteria which can be used to establish the most advantageous option
for each development. The service enables users to look at the cost of the building
over its lifetime, not just the build cost, but costs that will be incurred in years
to come.

First SCQS Prize for University Students
The Society is delighted to make its first award to a university student who has
demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in quantity surveying skills, particularly
in the field of construction measurement. Oliver North of Portsmouth University,
who achieved a First Class Honours degree, has been awarded the SCQS prize, worth
£100, for the best overall student in measurement-related units.
After awarding the prize certificate (photo), Senior Lecturer, Jim Kempton, said
that Oliver had displayed a level of concentration and an eye for detail which resulted
in high quality work, and he showed a deeper interest in the subject, not only learning
the processes and techniques, but also questioning why things were done, a trait
that set him apart from his peers.
Since graduating, Oliver has secured a RICS APC training position with a local Quantity
Surveying Practice, Selway Joyce, in Fareham. We wish Oliver every success for the
future.
We plan to make further awards to students in other universities in the autumn.
